After my mad sprint to complete Secret Gifts, you may have noticed that I haven’t been posting very much about my writing.
That’s because I’ve decided I need to go back to basics and strengthen my plotting skills.
NaNoWriMo was such a good reminder that I can write quickly when I don’t resent the characters and the story.
Secret Dream was such a struggle throughout 2018… It constantly felt like I was trying to shoehorn a square peg into a round hole. I need to take a step back and rethink the story.
In fact, I’ve pretty much decided to scrap the 40,000+ words that I’ve already written and start completely fresh. (Which is painful to think about, but necessary at this point.)
However, I’d rather not make the same mistake twice. My good friend, Lynne, has been recommending The Story Grid for ages now and I’ve decided to take her advice and work through the textbook.
My plan is to sit down March 1st with a plot in hand and tackle Secret Dream with a better idea of where I’m going.
